Ekpy

Design & Animation: Alex Chopjian
Music: Sanctus

Ekpy is a short film that explores the cyclical nature of creation and destruction...in space. Inspired by claymation, Ekpy takes a playful interpretation on the Ancient Stoic belief of Ekpyrosis, which examines the cyclic theory of the Universe.

A very special thanks to Wes from Sanctus for helping me make Ekpy come to life with some great music.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Ekpy Quote Breakdown

During ideation, I was intrigued by this quote from UG Krishnamaruti, which explores the duality between uniqueness and conformity, which I used to inspire the narrative.

Ekpy Process 02

By breaking down and reformatting the quote, I was able to extract keywords and visualize the phrase.

Ekpy-4

Using the keywords pulled from the quote, I then used mind-mapping techniques to further develop and discover potential visual and narrative opportunities.

Ekpy-5

Based on the words and ideas that stemmed from the mind-mapping process, I organized them into a word-based storyboard. This helped inform me for how the narrative should play out.

Ekpy-6

The word-based storyboard was then translated into a visual storyboard, where the abstract ideas started to take form.
